Within that, only 2–3% qualify as Madama. The next 2% — those that do not meet the Madama grade but still have the highest level of luster — are called Blue Rose. The Japanese pearl industry places the greatest emphasis on luster; it is a crucial factor in pricing and carries significant weight. For this reason, the Pearl Science Laboratory conducts a specific evaluation for luster. Among all pearl strands, those with the highest luster are given the designation Rose. Blue Rose, therefore, refers to the blue-gray Akoya pearls with the highest luster.
