Why regular cleaning is important for pearls?

A pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has deposited in concentric layers.

Physical properties of pearls

Pearl is the only one gemstone produced by living organisms during life activities, so its structural components are as delicate as human skin.

Why wiping is important for pearls?

Wiping is one of the most important aspects of care. Of course, it is necessary to wipe the pearls after use and then put them away, but to put it briefly, it is necessary to have enough delicacy to wipe them if it comes into contact with your hands, even if only a little.

Our skin secretions, such as perspiration and hand sebum, are acidic. The calcium carbonate on the surface of pearls is vulnerable to acidity, so if this condition is repeated, it will gradually dissolve and form unevenness.

This causes dimming and the beautiful TERI, the brightness and the color of light interference on a pearl, is lost. Therefore, the cloth used to wipe pearls must have excellent water absorbency and oil absorbency.

The Pearl Cloth Series, researched and developed by the Pearl science laboratory, uses ultra-fine fibers (microfiber) and is the best for cleaning pearls. Please use them to maintain their beauty.

Caring for pearls

Quality pearls are very durable, but proper care is necessary to keep your pearl jewelry beautiful and lustrous. There are certain products and environmental conditions you'll need to avoid in order to keep your pearl jewelry looking gorgeous for years to come. Here are important tips to care for your pearls.

Four Don'ts ❌

  1. Do not always touch the pearls, the acidic oils and perspiration from human skin can damage and deteriorate the surface of pearls.
  2. Do not wear the pearls while you are cooking.Grease and heat can permanently stain the  surface of pearls as well.
  3. Do not submerge your pearls in water - no showers, no dishes, no swimming.  The chlorine in the water will eat away at the epoxy securing the pearls to their mountings, and soaking the silk your pearls are strung on causes it to stretch out and break early.
  4. Avoid exposure to very bright lights over a long periods of time, direct sunlight or intense halogen lights can fade natural as well as treated colors.

Four Dos  ✔️

  1. Gently wipe pearls with a soft cloth to remove sweat, perfume, excess oils or dirt before putting them away.
  2. Pearls should be stored away from other objects or jewelry that may scratch their surfaces. Place the pearls in a soft pouch. Be sure to have each pearl knotted separately, so they do not rub together and wear on the pearl nacre.
Pearls need moisture. If the environment is too dry, the pearls may crack. If placing the pearls in a safety deposit box or in a hot environment, leave a damp cloth nearby, and try to get them out of there as quickly as you can. Wear them at least  semi-often
  3. Keep pearls away from chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, ammonia, hairspray, perfume, and cosmetics, as these substances will damage the pearl surface.
  4. Make sure to put pearls on after finished spraying perfume or hairspray and putting on makeup. Be very careful with chemical substances as they will eat holes in the pearl nacre.
